    Wat Phra Si Mahathat in Bang Khen, Bangkok

    The first thing noticed about Wat Phra Si Mahathat when looking at a map is the man-made canals that look like two arms reaching out. Of course, this is only noticeable on the map or from the sky. The temple has a park setting which is very relaxing. My wife and I enjoyed strolling around and looking at everything. Sacred fig trees on each side of the site stand with Buddha underneath. An umbrella sits atop his head which represents enlightenment.     Wat Pha Nam Thip Thep Prasit Wanaram appears in the northeastern Thailand (Isaan) countryside seemingly out of nowhere. The journey here is scarce by tourists. The wat is located in the eastern part of the Roi Et province. The temple sits atop a hill. Surrounding below are rural villages and forests. The site contains one of Thailand’s largest chedis, Phra Mahachedi Chai Mongkhon. This chedi stands in the center with eight smaller chedis placed in each direction.
